Polishing and detailing service

A few facts!

  • Gelcoat is a combination of resin and pigment that comprises the smooth outside coating of s fireglass boat

  • Gelcoat is porous, it allows seawater and dirt to pass through. This dirt creates the dull “chalky” appearance.

  • Automotive products do not work in the marine environment; they were designed for a different purpose.

  • Polishing alone will not protect your gelcoat.

  • The most common cause for a boat not selling, according to marine surveyors, is bad presentation. A carefully detailed boat will not only look good but will sell faster and demand a premium.

Detailing your boat

What is detailing?

Detailing is the ultimate preparation and protection for a boat, more than a wash and clean or polish. Washing may clean off most of the dirt, but will not shine a dull boat. Polishing will shine the vessel but will not 100% revive badly faded colours, nor will it leave a long lasting protective barrier. Detailing is exactly that; taking care of the details that are so often overlooked, rust stains, non-slip decking and teak, not to mention vinyl seats, cushions and Biminis

The five stages of detailing

  1. Wash – It is important to use a specifically designed, non-detergent, biodegradable, deoxidising boatwash.

  2. Dry – Completely dried with non - streaking, micro fibre cloths.

  3. Clean – Including teak and non-slip decks and the removal of rust marks and streaks, .

  4. Restore – Cutting back the gel coat to remove the dull finish, before waxing the gelcoat and restoring faded colours.

  5. Protect – Apply a long lasting gelcoat sealer to preserve finish.

An asthetically pleasing exterior can often be let down by a neglected engine room. If your bilge and engine space are filthy they may be masking a potential problem, or could cause you to over look critical checks, both of which could become a costly disaster. Don’t forget that discharge of this kind is not only environmentally unfriendly but also illegal.

Why detail your boat?

  • Value – Help to maintain the best market price, a properly presented vessel is more appealing to a potential buyer. The cost of a full detail may be recouped in the sale price.

  • Protection – Protect that investment, using only the best products applied in the correct manner and will help to guard against rapid deterioration.

  • Pride – Be the envy of the marina with the best-prepared boat.

  • Maintenance – Less of! A properly detailed vessel will require less effort with the right products.

  • Flybridge vessel - in water (no hull detail) €70 per metre
